I wrote in my last blog post that I was transitioning away from training for ultramarathons and coaching soccer. Some people have asked me what I intend to do now that those hobbies have passed, what I am going to start doing. First, I need to preface that although my blog still has my soccer coaching material posted, I haven’t coached in two years. I enjoyed my time as a soccer coach, at least the first time; my return to coaching a few years ago wasn’t as enjoyable, to say the least. As for ultramarathoning, I learned that it can be a trigger for my bipolar due to its intense nature.

So what now?

I’ve actually found, or revived, a hobby from long ago. First, it’s no secret that I am a fan of typewriters. I’ve featured several typed pages and even some of my typewriters on my blog in the past. Several years ago, I got into repairing and selling typewriters. My biggest hurdle back then was my inability to separate from the fixed typewriter, so my collection grew to around 20 typewriters all at the same time. ’Twas a problem for me, for sure.

Yet, I am here to inform you that my ability to part from them has grown tremendously. Oh, I guess I should say, if it isn’t painfully obvious, that I have started selling typewriters again. Just in case you joined us halfway through the paragraph.

I started the resale process about two or three weeks ago, and I’ve already sold four units. Was it hard to part with them? Hell yeah. They were really cool machines. But it makes me happy to be able to get a unit in working order and get a typewriter into the hands of someone who can enjoy them as much or better than I can.

We, my wife (Borat voice) and I, have also started selling plants. We did our first booth at the Summerville Trade Day yesterday. It was a lot of fun and was even a successful day monetarily. I’ve really enjoyed learning about the plants and how to care for them as well. I’ve even started dabbling into turning them into decoration pieces by putting them into typewriters and making other cool planters with equally cool plants in them.

In a way, for both of us, this is a resurgence of hobbies that both of us enjoyed tremendously in the past. My wife is really knowledgeable with the green, leafy plants (not those green plants you’re probably thinking of, LOL) and has been making me into an apprentice in the way of the plant. A plant daddy, if you will. Actually, no, plant dad sounds a lot less problematic.

So that’s what both of us have been up to. I’m going to involve you guys with our journey along the way. Might even post some cool machines that come through my hands as well. I guess I’ll have to give you guys a peek at my greenery skills as they, and my planter projects, develop along the way.
